Innocents Abroad

Expedition leader Tom Little dismissed warnings that his team was too large, contained too many foreigners, and planned to visit extremely dangerous areas of Afghanistan. In the event, UK doctor Karen Woo and seven other foreign aid workers, including Dr Little and two Afghans, were massacred en route from the remote Nuristan province. Police said the group, ambushed by armed men as they stopped for lunch, were interrogated and searched before being lined up and shot. It remains unclear who is responsible for the killings though the Taliban have claimed they murdered the group for ‘preaching Christianity’.
