GM Crops here to stay

At present, 14 million farmers in 25 countries on six continents use genetically modified plants both to meet the challenges of crop production and to protect the environment. These crops are the most studied products in existence and have been reviewed by all the international regulatory authorities using accepted standards of risk assessment. Organisations such as World Health, the UN, the European Commission and the Royal Society have given the food an entirely clean bill of health. Of course, Prince Charles, the Daily Mail and the usual Green suspects still demand further field tests – but then gangs of Green wreckers trash the trial crops. Yet I believe the future lies with GM crops which will increase yields, improve drought and saline tolerance as well as enhancing nutrition, convenience and taste.
