Royal Lever Pulling

Great events rarely impinge on our lives but beurocratic irrelevances, daft regulations, and hideous constructions increasingly intrude into our private affairs.

It is usually not clear who is controlling the levers of power and influence so we often feel ourselves at the mercy of faceless, top-down manipulation.

The Prince of Wales is a national treasure and though his views on global warming and other quackery are a bit weird, his take on architecture and landscaping is worth noting.

Given the disasters perpetrated by our planning authorities, few would have a problem with his active interest in the redevelopment of the former Chelsea barracks.

However secret influence behind the scenes and evidence produced in the High Court of document shredding to conceal this involvement is another matter.
