The Petit Bourgeois

Bigotgate highlighted one of the great failures of New Labour which was its disregard for the dignity of elderly people. It also bore witness to how remote Blair-Brown was from ordinary working class people. One could hardly expect a public school, champaign-socialist, like Blair to have much empathy with the proletariat but he at least held them in affection. The relentlessly petit bourgeois Brown from the small-minded little Fife town of Kirkcaldy had really no understanding or liking whatsoever for the working class. There is no gulf so deep as that between the Scottish bourgeoisie and the Scottish proletariat and it is obvious in every word and gesture of Gordon Brown.
