The PM’s Brain is Missing

A £10bn defence deal turned into a bureaucratic nightmare after the Gordon Brown insisted on using private finance to keep the cost off the national balance sheet. The National Audit Office reports that the MoD signed up for a fleet of multi-role RAF tanker and passenger aircraft without envisaging their use in a war zone. This absurd oversight means there will be huge delays and costs rising to £13bn to have the aircraft are “retro-fitted” with flight deck armour and other protective equipment. Already six years behind, the fiasco has endangered our forces because old and unreliable Tri-Star and VC10s are being used for refueling and transporting men to Afghanistan. Shrouded in secrecy by order of the PM, this Enron style deal is one of the most ludicrous procurement decisions ever taken even by this inept and disastrous administration.
