A step in the right direction

It would certainly be a step in the right direction if our “education” authorities were stripped of much of the country’s £5 billion-a-year schools budget. It would be far better for the money to go directly from the Scottish Government to head teachers, giving them control over staffing, discipline, and curriculum. Local authorities could then focus on administrative tasks such as school transport, meals and building maintenance. Taking local authorities out of the equation will cut council tax bills dramatically as councils will no longer need to find extra resources from local taxpayers. The proposals could return Scotland to the forefront of international education.
