A New Era of Strikes

Gordon Brown has turned Britain into an economic basket-case and, by unpicking the Thatcher Labour laws, released the union mafia to cause industrial mayhem. Those of us above a certain age have a bleak sense of deja-vu as life returns to the dreary, strike-prone 1970s. BA’s suicidal cabin crews will be joined by transport workers and public sector staff staging a wave of strikes around Easter to increase the general misery. Charlie Whelan, the PM’s long time spin meister and thuggish enforcer, is now the political director of Unite and makes no secret of his militant tendencies. Out in the real world, everyone else is bracing up to the new harsh reality but unionized labour and the public sectors are once again behaving as if they are a class apart.
