An Undemocratic Institution

The EU was an idea dreamed up by Jean Monnet in a bar in the Cognac region of France and designed to solve European problems of the 1940s. Since dear old Jean had never won an election in his life, the democratic nature of the institution did not come high on his list of desirable characteristics. Today, most of us would prefer something a bit more democratic and accountable. At present it is made up of failed national politicians such as the extended Kinnock family of freebie chasers. In addition it is endemically corrupt and completely incapable of keeping honest accounts. If the Tony Blair and the vile Cherie-Antoinette become the EU Royal Couple it will be an entirely appropriate choice for this dodgy, self-serving bunch of chancers.
