More Child Safety Lunacy

Another brilliant unintentional consequence has been achieved by New Labour’s “Vet the Nation” scheme. The tradition of pupils visiting lonely pensioners for a chat or to help with housework is being binned. Both the teenagers and the pensioners (mostly in the 80’s and above) must now undergo a criminal check and be registered with the ISA (Independent Safeguarding Authority). This joins another recent lunacy when a visiting hockey team planning to play at Newcastle’s Royal Grammar School was banned because players were due to stay with “unvetted” parents. The main result of New’s toxic nanny state has been the destruction of virtually all the youth programmes run by the churches and the serious undermining of all Scout, Guide, and BB groups. You could not make it up!
